Tips for Ranking

How to build a Big Board that reflects your true taste.

1. Be Honest

Don't rank items based on what you think is "popular" or "critically acclaimed." Rank based on what you enjoy. The whole point of consensus is to find the aggregate of honest individual opinions.

2. Start with a Remix

Starting from scratch can be daunting. Check out the Community Trends tab on your dashboard to find a board that's close to your opinion, then hit Remix to tweak it. It's much easier to edit than to create from zero!

3. Use the "Compare" Method

Struggling to decide if The Dark Knight is better than Inception? Don't try to rank the whole list at once. Compare just two items at a time. Ask yourself: "If I could only watch one of these forever, which would it be?"

4. Update Often

Opinions change. New things come out. Your Big Board isn't set in stone. Revisit your profile often to drag-and-drop new favorites into your top 20. Your updated ranking instantly updates the global consensus.

5. Focus on Specific Subcategories

Ranking "All Movies" is hard. Try starting with a specific genre like "Horror" or "Comedy." It's often easier to compare apples to apples than apples to oranges.

6. Share and Discuss

Once you've built your board, share it! Use the "Share" button on your profile to generate a cool image card. Post it on social media or send it to friends to spark a debate.
